Sugar Pie - The Recipe for a Sugar Rush

!: Sugar Pie - The Recipe for a Sugar Rush

Sugar pie is a common dessert in France, Belgium, Quebec and Midwestern United States. It is made of flour, sugar, butter, vanilla, cream and a little salt. Sometimes, this pie is also called a maple pie if maple syrup is used instead of, or in combination with brown sugar. You can easily make sugar pie because the ingredients can be readily available. Here's a recipe for sugar pie that is also called "tarte au sucre".

Ingredients for the sugar pie crust:

* 2 cups of flour
* 1/3 cup of milk
* 1 egg
* 1 1/2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
* 1/4 cup of white sugar
* 6 tablespoons of softened butter
* 1/2 teaspoon of salt

Preparation:

1. Prepare a round pan 10 inches in diameter and smear some butter on it. Cut some parchment paper just enough to fit the pan and smear some butter on it too. This will prevent the pie from sticking to the pan and getting burnt.
2. In a large bowl, pour in the flour and hollow out the center; this is where you will put the egg, butter, sugar and salt. Beat them all thoroughly until the mixture becomes thick.
3. Pour the milk into a saucepan and put it over low heat until it is warm. Combine this with the yeast and stir. Once these are blended, pour them on to the flour mixture. Continue beating until the mixture turns into dough.
4. Cover the bowl of dough and place it somewhere warm so it can rise. Allow it to rise to twice its original volume. This could take several hours, but the more active the yeast is, the faster the dough will rise.
5. Once it is already twice its original size, fit the dough into the pan. Allow it to rise again for 15 more minutes.
6. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and then proceed to preparing the topping.

Ingredients for the sugar pie topping:

* 3/4 cup of raw or light brown sugar
* 2 eggs
* 1 cup of whipped cream
* 2 tablespoons of butter

Preparation:

1. Sprinkle the sugar on the dough.
2. Beat the eggs together with the whipped cream. When thoroughly combined, pour these on to the dough.
3. Cut the butter into small pieces (about 20) and distribute these evenly on the top of the pie. You are now ready to put the pie in the oven.
4. Bake the sugar pie for 25 minutes. After baking, allow to cool for a little while, and then serve.

This pie can be enjoyed by up to 8 people. Try serving with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on top. You can also use dark brown sugar; this will give your sugar pie a darker color.
